The Green Trail Loop, named for its predominantly forested pathways, is 4.4 miles long and located entirely on the west side of Payne Hollow Road. This trail features gorgeous single-track paths through deep, dense forests. It’s designed for hikers and runners who prefer gentle downhills and uphills on soft forest ground, as well as birdwatchers and native plant enthusiasts. Rare and endangered owls, woodpeckers, and songbirds, along with wildflowers such as rare orchids, Camas Lilly, Wooly Mule’s Ears, and Western columbine are found here.

The trail’s loops cover most of the western portion of Jasper Mountain Reserve’s plateau, increasing chance encounters with rare specimens and fully immersing you in the trail experience. Even during the summer heat, the forested trail remains cool, 10-15ºF cooler than in the sun-exposed lowlands of Eastern Washington. While wildflower displays diminish in mid to late summer, migratory birds like the rare Solitary Sandpiper can still be spotted at the two ponds along the trail. The trails offer gorgeous fall colors and serene sub-alpine forest land until the snow arrives.
